  • Crayola Air-Dry Clay allows your kids to create fun and imaginative shapes with ease. This soft modeling material can either be reused or air dried overnight to preserve your creation; no baking is ever required. Smoother, finer, and less sticky than traditional clay, this Crayola modeling clay alternative is perfect for group activities. You can even soften the clay with water if needed, allowing kids to enjoy hours of fun making and re-making favorite creations. Once your child is finished creating, the air dried clay is great for painting. This product is designed for children ages 6 and older.

  • EASY TO MOLD, EASY TO CLEAN: Resealable 2.5 lb plastic bucket of Air Dry Clay– this fine, natural earth clay dries to a hard solid. Easy to use with traditional modeling techniques. It’s also a snap to clean up.

IMPROVING ON TRADITION: Crayola Air-Dry Clay is smoother, finer, and less sticky than traditional clay, and it needs no oven or kiln. Use techniques like pinch, coil, slab, score-and-weld; make stamped impressions, beads; embedding found objects.

TACTILE ART: Let kids express themselves through sculpting, molding, and modeling. Kids love the 3D nature of clay & dough. Our Air-Dry Clay hardens on its own, and our Modeling Clay can be sculpted, squished, and reused without drying out.

SAFE AND NONTOXIC: Ideal for adults and kids, age 6 & up.

FAQ

  • Crayola® Air-Dry Clay can be sealed once your piece is completely dry after 72 hours. Once dry, we suggest using an acrylic varnish. Make sure to test its compatibility with the varnish before applying it to a finished piece.

Sealing your work will not waterproof it. Exposure to water and outdoor elements will have a negative effect on the Air-Dry Clay, so we recommend displaying your sculpture indoors.

  • There are several reasons why a sculpture made with Crayola® may have cracked.

    • Forming the Air-Dry Clay around a rigid support or armature is not recommended. The clay gradually constricts as it dries, and the rigid piece remains the same size. This can result in the clay cracking. If you feel an armature is necessary, it is best to choose one that allows a small amount of give, such as crumpled aluminum foil.
    • Water can be added to air-dry clay to soften or join pieces. However, too much water may result in cracking as the clay dries. If too much water is added, making the clay very soft, allow the excess water to evaporate before molding pieces.
    • Air-Dry Clay pieces should be at least 1/4 inch in thickness. If the item you created is too thin, cracking may occur.

  • Decorating sculptures made with Crayola® Air-Dry Clay is fun and easy!

    • Paint: Thoroughly dry pieces may be painted with tempera, acrylic, or watercolor paint
    • Markers: Non-Permanent & Washable Markers may not provide optimal coverage if you are coloring a large area of clay since the clay tends to clog the marker nib. Permanent pigment-based markers work well for writing words on the clay.
    • Glitter Glue can be used to decorate dry artwork.

Other product suggestions: pigment-based stamping pads and metallic powder pigment embellishments.

  • Depending on the size of the decorative objects, we recommend using white school glue, Crazy Glue, or Gorilla Glue to adhere objects like stones, beads, glitter, moss, etc., to thoroughly dry Crayola® Air-Dry Clay pieces.

To attach a piece of Air-Dry Clay to wood, an adult should roughly sand the wood where the clay is to be placed. Once the clay has thoroughly dried, use a small amount of white school glue, Crazy Glue, or Gorilla Glue to adhere the Air-Dry Clay to the wood surface.
