A Jewel of a Book

What a charming way to write a book report! Each illustrated bracelet charm depicts an aspect of a book.

Lesson Plan

Supplies Needed

Gather all the supplies needed to bring your craft ideas to life! From paints and markers to glue and scissors, our crafts section has everything to spark creativity and make every project truly special.

Steps

  • Step 1

Have students read a book of their choice and take notes about characters, key settings, plot, and themes. Ask them to choose several aspects to depict on a charm for a bracelet or necklace.

  • Step 2

For a bracelet, have students trace a hand on a piece of construction paper or card stock and then cut it out. Ask them to write the name of the book and the author/illustrator on the wrist or palm. Then have them use a thin strip of construction paper to make a bracelet to hold the charms. Or if they chose to make a necklace, their charms will be medallions. Next students will cut out as many construction paper charms or medallions as needed to represent the book. They can use words and illustrations on the individual pieces.

  • Step 3

Poke holes in the charms and medallions then attach them to the bracelet or necklace using beads or other craft items. Attach the bracelet to the hand cut-out using a glue stick or tape. The students may want to decorate the hand with rings or nail polish.
